United Water is proposing to build a desalination plant in Haverstraw Bay that would take in water from the Hudson River and remove salt and minerals from water to make it drinkable. This is an energy-intensive process that is costly to consumers and damaging to local habitat, fisheries, and water resources. Conservation measures and sustainable water management are more cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternatives to this proposal.
Please join us for an informative public forum being held by CCE and the Rockland Water Coalition. The forum will cover the following important topics:
- United Water's desalination proposal;
- Potential cost to consumers;
- Environmental impacts; and
- Sustainable alternatives
Residents of Rockland County and the Hudson River community are invited to this free event to ask questions and learn the facts about desalination and conservation.
