CCE is looking forward to participating in The 5 Gyres Institute’s "Last Straw Plastic Pollution Solutions Outreach Tour" in New York City and New Haven, CT. This L.A. based group has embarked on a 1,400 mile bicycle tour along the East Coast to educate the public on plastic pollution and its impacts on our environment. A series of workshops along the way will educate industry, educators, citizens, and policymakers about solutions to the problem of plastics on a local level. 5 Gyres will present research from their expeditions to all five major oceanic gyres, which contain massive "garbage patches," while engaging audiences in realistic solutions.
5 Gyres and CCE are also organizing beach cleanups as part of the tour where volunteers will pick up trash and floatable debris in an effort to keep public beaches clean and pollution free. CCE staff will provide trash bags and educational environmental literature. Participants are asked to wear sturdy shoes and work gloves.
Pack a lunch and bring the kids. This is a great activity for the whole family, and an awesome way to learn about your environment and give back to your community!
