Say "No" to Offshore Drilling

Stand up against the shortsighted federal proposal

Take Action Now

The U.S. Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) have proposed to open the Atlantic Region Outer Continental Shelf to leasing, exploration, and development of oil and gas. Allowing offshore drilling anywhere in the Atlantic threatens New York's health, environment, and economy. Now, we need to take action to protect our state from this shortsighted federal proposal.

U.S. history is littered with examples of offshore drilling operations and spills that have had devastating and lasting impacts on communities across the country. Offshore oil and gas exploration and drilling can kill or severely injure a wide array of fish and marine life, threatens public health, and contributes to climate change.

Offshore drilling puts our ocean economy at risk. New York's ocean industries, such as fishing, tourism, and recreation, contribute more than $24.8 billion to our gross domestic product (GDP) and support more than 328,000 jobs. Long Island alone has a $5.6 billion tourism industry!

Governor Cuomo has introduced legislation that would prohibit state leases that would allow for offshore drilling. Sign Governor Cuomo's petition and say "no" to offshore drilling off New York's coast.

Governor Cuomo recently introduced the Save Our Waters program bill, which would protect our waters and economy from federal efforts to expand offshore drilling. This bill would:

Prohibit leases for oil and gas exploration and production in NY waters.
Prohibit infrastructure on state land associated with offshore oil production in the North Atlantic.
Prohibit transportation of crude oil produced from federal waters within the navigable waters of the state.

Thank you for taking action. Together we make a difference!
