2016 NEW YORK STATE LEGISLATIVE AGENDA

CCE works to advance legislation that will protect our natural environment and public health, while working to oppose legislation that will have an adverse impact on our shared environment. Below is a list of proposed legislation and budget items that CCE will be working to advance or oppose in the 2016 New York State legislative session.

GMO Labeling (A.617B – Rosenthal / S. 485B – LaValle)

Requires labeling of foods that contain GMOs.

Prohibits the sale of cleaning products containing triclosan.

Prohibits the use of glyphosate in certain parks, playgrounds, and picnic areas.

Requires paint manufactures and retailers to establish a statewide paint recycling program.

Prohibits imposing a tax, fee, or local charge on disposable bags.

Ocean Acidification Task Force (A.10264 – Englebright / S.7908 – LaValle)

Establishes a task force to assess and recommend adaptive measures regarding ocean acidification.

Easing E-Waste Burden on Municipalities (A.10428 – Englebright)

Increases the minimum amount of E-waste manufacturers must collect.

Creates a marine mammal and sea turtle protection area around Plum Island, Great Gull Island, and Little Gull Island.
