A group of environmental groups released a minute-long video today, with Hollywood actors and actresses bathing, fishing, drinking and gargling New York water while speaking out against hydraulic fracturing.

Among those in the video: Ethan Hawke, Mark Ruffalo, “Sports Night” and “The Good Wife” star Josh Charles, and Amy Ryan, who played Michael Scott’s fiancee in “The Office.”

The spot was sponsored by a coalition of groups who have been very outspoken against hydrofracking, including Environmental Advocates of New York, Catskill Mountainkeeper and Citizens Campaign for the Environment.

Ruffalo, in particular, has been very outspoken on the issue. The Sullivan County resident, who will play The Hulk in the upcoming Avengers movie, has made several trips to Albany and college campuses across the state to speak out against the much-debated technique used in natural gas extraction.

Talk on hydrofracking has heated up in recent weeks. Two weeks ago, Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office issued a directive asking the Department of Environmental Conservation to visit the site of a Pennsylvania well blowout as part of its ongoing review of the environmental impacts of fracking.

Meanwhile, he asked for a second draft of that report to be completed by the beginning of July. High-volume hydraulic fracturing in the Marcellus Shale and other formations remains on hold in New York until a final version of the report is released.

On Monday, the Assembly passed a bill that would officially ban new hydrofracking permits until June 1. It’s fate in the Senate, however, is far from clear.
