Report Card: Bay Park Sewage Plant Worst on LI

54 water-quality violations were issued to the East Rockaway-based plant in five years.

The Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant, the facility that a Long Beach resident discovered was emitting excessive amounts of sludge into Reynolds Channel last year, was graded a D ranked the worst among Long Island's 10 sewage plants in a report card issued by Citizens Campaign for the Environment, a Farmingdale environmental advocacy group.

Newsday reports that 54-water-quality violations were issued to the East Rockaway-based plant in five years.

The Nassau County-run plant and its operations have become a central issue in the 4th Legislative District race between incumbent Republican Denise Ford and her challenger, fellow Long Beach resident Darlene Tangney.
