White Plains Mayor Tom Roach is taking his reusable bag campaign to the next level.

On Friday, Roach will unveil a reusable bag giveaway contest to promote the use of reusable shopping bags and preview a new public service announcement created by Citizens Campaign for the Environment, spokeswoman Karen Pasquale said.

In May, Roach named Max Crawley, of White Plains High School, as the student winner of the city's Reusable Bag Design Contest and unveiled his winning design.

"We're trying to encourage people to make the switch from plastic to reusable bags," Pasquale said.

Roach will be joined by White Plains Councilwoman Milagros Lecuona, representatives from Shop Rite, Stop & Shop, Target, Wal-Mart, and Whole Foods, as well as the Citizens Campaign for the Environment.

The news conference will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the rotunda at White Plains City Hall.
