BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — As efforts continue to develop Buffalo's waterfront, a county lawmaker says it's time to look at the water quality of Lake Erie.

Erie County Legislator Patrick Burke has scheduled a public discussion for Monday at Old County Hall. Representatives from several county departments, including the Department of Health and Erie County Sewers are scheduled to participate.

Several environmental groups also are planning to send representatives, including Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper, the Alliance for the Great Lakes and Citizens Campaign for the Environment.

Burke says contamination from years of chemical and sewage run-off is impacting public health, recreation and the economy.
