NEW YORK ENERGY HIGHWAY BLUEPRINT IS PATHWAY TO THE PAST, NOT HIGHWAY TO A CLEAN ENERGY FUTURE

Citizens Campaign for the Environment, Environmental Advocates of New York, Environment New York, Renewable Energy Long Island, and National Wildlife Federation have issued the following statement in response to the recently released NY Energy Highway Blueprint:

“The NY Energy Highway Blueprint seems to have been written for the past century. By providing no meaningful new investment in renewable energy, this is a pathway to the past rather than a blueprint for a sustainable energy future for New York. While it recommends improvements to the regional climate pollution program, a necessary extension of the state's renewable portfolio standard, and studies of offshore wind energy, overall the plan calls for an extremely heavy reliance on fossil fuel technology for decades into the future.

New Yorkers should be very concerned that this plan would invest billions of ratepayer dollars in fossil fuel infrastructure - subjecting residents to price volatility and decades of more pollution - without making any significant new commitments to advance clean energy. This plan will prevent New York from meeting its current renewable energy goals and realizing the environmental and economic benefits of a clean energy future.”
