FRACKING HEALTH REVIEW BRINGS WELCOME DELAY

Albany, NY - After today’s announcement from New York State Department of Health Commissioner Shah and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Martens that fracking would be delayed until the completion of the health review CCE issued the following statement:

“CCE is relieved that Commissioner Shah is taking his critical charge to review the health impacts of fracking seriously and has requested more time to complete that review. CCE also acknowledges Commissioner Martens for his commitment to not releasing the Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement (SGEIS) until the health review is completed.

Governor Cuomo has repeatedly stated that he is committed to letting science dictate the process, therefore a rigorous health assessment is essential to achieve this commitment.

CCE continues to call upon New York State to open the health review for public comment, after Commissioner Shah completes his draft assessment. CCE also calls upon Commissioner Martens to commit to a complete regulatory package that includes all necessary science.”
