SUFFOLK COUNTY LEGISLATURE HOLDS PUBLIC HEARING ON BANNING PLASTIC BAGS

Hauppauge, NY—CCE will join with other environmental organizations, scientists, high school students, civic organizations and members of the public to support a ban on plastic grocery bags in Suffolk County. The legislation will ban plastic bags and place a 10 cent fee on paper bags. The Legislation is modeled after other successful bans that fostered a change in public behavior and spurred the public to BYOB – Bring Your Own Bag.

When:  Tuesday, March 22nd at 6:30 PM
Where: Hauppauge Legislative Auditorium ,Suffolk County Legislature,
            William J. Lindsay County Complex
            William H. Rogers Building
            725 Veterans Memorial Highway
            Smithtown, NY 11787

“Banning plastic bags is simple common sense,” said Adrienne Esposito, Executive Director for Citizens Campaign for the Environment (CCE). “With the growing environmental concerns surrounding plastic in our oceans, estuaries and food chain, it is reasonable to ask the public to bring our own reusable bags to the store. It’s one small, simple change that will have a large, meaningful impact.”
