NEW DEC COMMISSIONER IS THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR NEW YORK STATEMENT BY ADRIENNE ESPOSITO, CCE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Statement by Adrienne Esposito, CCE Executive Director

The new DEC Commissioner, Joe Martens, brings experience, dedication and a wealth of knowledge to a demanding and central position for Governor Cuomo’s administration. Mr. Martens understands that New York State's economic success is directly linked to a healthy environment. He understands that growing our economy and protecting our environment are compatible goals.

The new Commissioner will face numerous policy challenges including reviewing the highly controversial issue of hydro-fracking for gas, the proposed desalination plant on the Hudson River, a growing need for ocean and estuary protection and implementation of programs for restoration of the Great Lakes. These issues come at a time when staff cuts for the DEC are at a record high. CCE looks forward to working with the Commissioner in a constructive and productive manner to advance critical protection of our water, air and land resources for the residents of New York State.

Mr. Martens is highly respected by members of the Energy and Environment Transition Team and it is rewarding to have been part of the process.
