U.S. SENATE CONFIRMS CCE STAFFER DERETH GLANCE TO REPRESENT UNITED STATES ON JOINT COMMISSION

Glance is great choice to represent US in protecting US/Canada shared water resources

Syracuse, NY- Citizens Campaign for the Environment congratulates Dereth Glance on her confirmation to serve as one of three US Commissioners on the International Joint Commission at the US Department of State. Dereth was nominated by President Obama for the position in March. Dereth has been a valued member of our CCE team for the past decade, and currently holds the key position of Executive Program Director.

Dereth is a tireless advocate who has spent decades advancing Great Lakes protection and restoration from small town halls to the halls of Congress. Her professional experience and knowledge of water issues along the US and Canada border make her an ideal choice for this important position. Dereth’s energy and enthusiasm, as well as her ability to work with diverse interests will serve our nation well in this critical position.

Dereth’s extensive credentials include her ten years of work at Citizens Campaign for the Environment; she was a board member for the Clean Water Network, served on the New York State Great Lakes Basin Advisory Council as well as New York Clean Water Collaborative. She also chaired the Community Participation Working Group for the Onondaga Lake Bottom Superfund sub-site and served on the Outreach Committee for the Onondaga Lake Partnership. Dereth was also a board member for the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency.

On the six-person International Joint Commission, Dereth will work to prevent and resolve water use disputes on waterways that span the U.S. and Canada border.

CCE applauds President Obama on his selection of Dereth for IJC Commissioner, as well as the Senate for confirming her. Dereth will be stepping down from her position at CCE and starting her new position in two weeks.
