NEW RESEARCH PRESENTED ON WESTERN BAYS STUDIES

Free Public Forum to Discuss the Ecological and Water Quality Findings for this Vast Water Body

Farmingdale, NY—The Western Bays Working Group, comprised of elected officials and stakeholder organizations, are hosting a public forum to unveil and discuss new research conducted over the summer of 2011 on the Western Bays. These educational forum will feature presentations by Christopher Schubert of the United States Geological Survey and Dr. Larry Swanson of Stony Brook University School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences.

The Western Bays, a sub region of the South Shore Estuary in western Nassau County, is plagued with declining water quality. Last year, state funding was awarded to SUNY Stony Brook to conduct the first comprehensive research project on the status of the ecological conditions and water quality of the Western Bays. This research is critically needed to help us plan to protect and restore these bays.
The event is free and open to the public.

FORUM DETAILS:
WHEN: Friday, December 9, 2011
TIME: 10am-12pm
LOCATION: Nassau County Legislative Chambers
1550 Franklin Ave
Mineola, NY 11501
